It was the second time Uhuru was meeting leaders from the region at Nakuru State House given that he held a similar meeting after nullification of his victory in 2017.

According to Nyamira Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi, Uhuru promised to expedite infrastructure development in the region besides aiding ailing tea and coffee sectors.

She said the President asked local leaders to work closely with Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i to expedite completion of ongoing projects in the region.

"We were few but we were able to meet the president. He was specifically concerned about infrastructure which he said he will help fix before his term ends," she said.

Mrs Momanyi added: "Tea sector is another area the President is specifically concerned about. He is keen to ensure misfortunes are overturned. Importantly, he asked as to work with CS Matiang'i."

Also present at State House were Youth Leader Brian Mamboleo, businessman Rodgers Ongera Moturi and former MP and councilor Mzee  Benson Kegoro.

Uhuru is yet to visit Nyamira during his second term but has visited neighbouring Kisii County once in January this year, a trip that caused divisions.

Nyamira leaders apart from Mrs Momanyi and Governor John Nyagarama boycotted the meeting, arguing that the president ought to have organised a visit to Nyamira instead of asking them to meet in Kisii.
