Up to 42 street children who were arrested in Nakuru on Wednesday and transported to a forest in Baringo County were on Thursday transported back to Nakuru.
The children were found at Torongo forest on Thursday morning and transferred to Nakuru by Koibatek Deputy County Commissioner.
The issue caused a storm in Nakuru's social media platforms as it appeared that the move was part of the county's 'attempt to get rid of street families from Nakuru town'.
“We found them in a small village called Tinet and we interrogated them before we brought them to Nakuru,” Eldama Ravine sub-county administrator David Aenga said.
Aenga asked the Nakuru county government to find better ways of dealing with the challenge of street children.
“We have handed over our handing over letter to the county secretary, and the children to the reinforcement officers. We believe they will address the same,” he said.
The Nakuru County government is yet to respond to the issue.
