The National Police Service has deployed police officers and coastal police officers along Kisumu, Nandi, and Kericho border to end the insecurity menace that has always been witnessed along the borders of the three counties.
Speaking on Thursday in Kisumu Nyanza Regional Police Commander Vincent Makokha said the officers were deployed at the beginning of this year after several reports on clashes within the three borders emerged.
“We have currently deployed the Rapid Deployment Unit which is manning the borders. So far there is a lot of calmness, we have not experienced any attacks or animosity from Rift Valley and Nyanza people,” said Makokha.
He further revealed that the officers will help in curbing cattle rustling which has been rampant along Kisumu, Nandi and Kericho border. “We are also working on the issue of cattle theft and it is six to seven months down the line without getting any report concerning the same on the Muhoroni-Nandi border or Kericho,” he said.
The Nyanza police boss reiterated that they are already engaging communities living along the borders encouraging them to embrace the spirit of brotherhood. “We also talk to the public about living in harmony because we are all Kenyans regardless of ethnic groups,” he added.
Makokha noted that they are keen on working hand in hand with the local administrations to ensure law and order are maintained along the affected borders, adding that Kenya is bigger than anybody hence deserve peace.
