A report written by House Democrats has asserted that the president of the United States of America Donald Trump inappropriately and illegally used his power to influence Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden, his possible presidential opponent.
The searing report was put together after weeks of testimony from witnesses who appeared before impeachment inquiry committee, New York Times reports.
“The impeachment inquiry into Donald J. Trump, the 45th President of the United States, uncovered a months long effort by President Trump to use the powers of his office to solicit foreign interference on his behalf in the 2020 election,” the report read in part.
BBC says the report drawn by the House Intelligence Committee will await approval from another panel.
Its findings are expected to inform the basis of impeaching Donald Trump.
The embattled US President has strongly denied the allegations leveled against him, accusing the Democrats of engaging in a political witch hunt.
Adam Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence, said that the US President had gone against the oath he took when he assumed office.
“The president’s actions have damaged our national security, undermined the integrity of the next election and violated his oath of office," Schiff said as quoted by the Guardian newspaper.
They have also challenged the very core of our constitutional system of checks and balances, separation of powers, and rule of law," he added.
