The meeting which took place at Odinga’s Capitol Hill office in Nairobi, was purposely to discuss the welfare of university students and ways in which youths can benefit more from the government.

The first agenda that the former student leader tabled during the meeting was the involvement of youths in the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI). He requested the former Prime Minister to facilitate increased youths’ involvement in the BBI so as to also cut down on the problem of unemployment.

The young politician also challenged the University Amendment Act of 2016 which directs the university students to elect delegates who will in turn vote in the Students Governing Council (SGC). According to Tisa, comrades should be given the right to directly vote for all their leaders including the SGC.

“One of the most important features of the constitution is the fact that it is flexible. This, therefore, means that anyone is welcomed to challenge any act of the constitution as long as it is within reasonable and legal boundaries. I am grateful that his excellency gave us two lawyers to facilitate the process,” Tisa stated.

Insecurity among university students especially extrajudicial killings was also a major topic of discussion during the meeting. This comes after a university student was shot dead in Nairobi last year in December. It was realized that police reforms, especially in relation to university security, were necessary.

Tisa who is also the communications officer (youths wing) in the office of Homabay Governor Awiti also requested for the roles of university students in the country’s Big 4 Agenda to be expanded. Odinga, however, advised the youths to grab the available opportunities instead of waiting for the government to allocate them specific roles.

“I might have retired as the Sec Gen of MUSO, a position which I served diligently, but that is not the end of my leadership. I am a politician who visualizes everything in terms of 10 years to come. And on that note, I can assure the youths of Kenya that I will fight for them in whichever way I can. My meeting with his Excellency the People’s President is only the beginning of a long journey towards greatness,” Tisa noted.

The former student leader who has definitely gone down as one of the most influential student leaders in the history of Moi University is also set to attend a meeting between student leaders and the president to discuss the Big Four agenda and BBI.
