An American businesswoman, Jennifer Arcuri opened up to her friends that she was having a sexual affair with United Kingdom Prime Minister Boris Johnson, New York Times reports.
Arcuri had initially benefitted by receiving thousands of pounds from a government agency that Johnson controlled as he held the mayor of London seat.
This occurrence plagues UK PM's doings as it comes at a time when he tries to manoeuvre past the parliamentary deadlock due to his Brexit plans.
On Friday, Johnson was referred to a police watchdog by a monitor at London city hall.
This was aimed at investigating the truthfulness of the accusations tables against the PM.
If the accusation is found out to be true, then he could come face to face with the misconduct of public office.
Several agencies have been mandated to investigate if Johnson did discharge favourable treatment to Jennifer Arcuri, 34, by taking her on trade missions that she never qualified for and also by making her acquire sponsorship money with ease.
Both Johnson and Ms Arcuri have denied the accusation.
Also erring to the words of the two a government minister from Mr Johnson’s Conservative Party have dubbed the accusations as “an obviously politicized complaint.”
