Close to 15 counties have been hit by drought this year with Kilifi, Kwale, Tana River and Taita Taveta Counties being the worst affected.

Other Counties include Mandera , Wajir, Marsabit, Isiolo, Makueni, Kitui and Samburu.

The government has already constituted a ministerial team to quickly move and mitigate the drought that has already affected 1.3 million people.

The ministries include Water and Irrigation, Health, Education, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Devolution and Planning, Interior and National Co-ordination and National treasury.

In a joint statement, Devolution cabinet secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri and his treasury counterpart Henry Rotich revealed that Sh250 million has already been released to the state department of special programmes for emergency relief food.

“We would like to assure all Kenyans that the Government is on top of this situation and shall ensure that the necessary help reaches the neediest,” said Mwangi Kiunjuri via capital News

“The National Government will quickly reach-out to County Governments to take up similar initiatives,” he added.

The ministry of water has mobilized 20 bowsers for the supply of water in the most affected areas.
