The Kenya Long Distance Truck Drivers and Allied Workers Union has announced that 15 Kenyan truck drivers died in South Sudan on Saturday.
According to the union, the 15 were killed near Jebel town in South Sudan on Saturday together with six drivers from neighboring Uganda. They were shot dead on their way from Juba during the scary fighting in South Sudan.
Nicholas Mbugua the secretary general, however, said that they were liaising with South Sudan in efforts to trace eight others who are still missing.
“We have contacted the Foreign Affairs ministry to assist in locating the missing drivers and assess the situation. We can confirm that we have lost drivers since Thursday's fighting," said Mbugua on Tuesday.
He added that they were expecting to meet with Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Monica Juma.
According to the star, Kenyans in Juba are running low on essential supplies as fighting goes on in South Sudan and they are pleading with the president to evacuate them since their lives are in danger.
Since the war broke out on Thursday between president Salva Kiir's and the vice president Riek Machar's supporters, over 200 people have died including civilians.
On Monday however, Kiir and Machar commanded their supporters to put their fights to an end.
