Fifteen Members of the Migori County Assembly and other county workers were on Sunday taken to various hospitals in Mombasa after they developed stomach problems. The MCAs who were suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea received the cholera jab following a recent outbreak of the disease in the county.A doctor who attended to the MCAs, however, said they were suffering from food poisoning."Basically, this means that the food they ate was not cooked well that is why they suffered from food poisoning. We treated quite a number of them who thought it was cholera but we confirmed it's not," said the doctor, as quoted by the Nation.Makerero MCA Joseph Hoyo said they had eaten meat, chicken, fish, rice and chapati at a hotel in the county on Saturday night."We were booked at a hotel in Mombasa for a three-day induction. We were 57 MCAs but only 15 MCAs were affected. I almost died due to diarrhoea and vomiting. I was the most affected. The rest were afraid of me; they thought I had cholera,” said Mr HoyoOn his part, Masaba MCA William Abedi said he did not fall sick as he did not eat at the hotel. He, however, said four of the MCAs will be airlifted for further treatment in Nairobi, as they were in critical condition. The MCAs were treated at Nyali Healthcare, Mtwapa’s Oasis Hospital and at an AAR clinic, the Nation reported.
