15 representatives from Thika Sub County were on Tuesday elected to Kiambu Alcoholic Drinks Regulatory Committee.
The committee will oversee the implementation of the new illicit brew laws.
The election exercise was held at Thika Stadium where all the five wards in Thika Sub County elected 3 representatives each.
Speaking during the exercise, area MP Patrick Wainaina said the 15 representatives will meet the Kiambu County Directorate of Alcoholic Drinks Control next week to be inducted on the Kiambu County Alcoholic Drinks Control Act.
“The committee will be responsible for the issuance of the alcoholic drinks licenses and ensure there is public participation for the citizens in accordance with the law,” said Wainaina.
He called on residents who have ventured into alcoholic businesses in the area to apply for licenses as by the Kiambu County Alcoholic Drinks Control to avoid unnecessary wrangles with the county reinforcement officers.
Wainaina asked the 15 representatives not to sleep on their job.
“The mandate that the people of Thika Sub County have given to the 15 representatives should not be abused. Locals should be represented well in the committee and their grievances addressed amicably,” he added.
