Secretary of Innovation, Digital and Diaspora Communication in the Office of the President Dennis Itumbi has defended Deputy President William Ruto, from being attacked for politicking at a school assembly in Nairobi.
Itumbi was responding to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, who had questioned the deputy president's move to discuss the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) at a school assembly in Embakasi West Constituency, Nairobi County on Thursday.
While at the school, the DP hit out at the organisers of the BBI consultation forums for setting preconditions to attendees on how to carry out themselves during the events.
Ruto had opined in a video shared on Twitter that nobody had been appointed to supervise the events.
Sifuna reacted to the video by wondering why the DP had decided to play politics at the school assembly.
"So the gentlemen have decided to take their political differences to morning parades. (Sasa wazee wamepeleka tofauti zao kwa morning parade tena)," wondered Sifuna.
However, Itumbi took issue with Sifuna's statements. He noted that the deputy president spoke about the matters concerning the BBI on the request of parents and teachers.
"He spoke to children and then teachers. Parents asked about BBI and he responded too," Itumbi said.
On Saturday, the next BBI consultative forum will be held in Mombasa.
