Police officers in Nyeri County are investigating the death of a woman who was allegedly murdered by her husband before he fled from the scene.
The lifeless body of the woman identified as Grace Nyambura was discovered by neighbors on Wednesday evening inside their one-roomed rental house at Jamaica estate, Karatina town in Nyeri.
The man identified as Simon Nderitu allegedly killed his wife following a domestic quarrel at around 4.30pm and tried to set her body on fire before he fled.
Area residents saw smoke from the room and were forced to break the door which was locked from outside in an attempt to put out the fire.
The residents were however shocked to find the lifeless body of the mother of two lying on a bed and the beddings were on fire. The fire was put out by Karatina fire brigade.
Mathira East Police Boss James Barasa and Chief Detective Jackson Muriuki said they have launched investigations into the matter.
The body of the woman which was taken to the mortuary had a fresh stab wound on the head and a manhunt was launched for the suspect.
“The matter is being treated as murder,” said Barasa as the police were at the scene to collect evidence.
The landlady, Esther Nyambura Wachira, said since the couple rented the house two months ago neighbors have been complaining of their constant quarrels which sometimes leads to fights.
