Kirenga MCA Joseph Karichu has disclosed plans by his colleagues to impeach Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu next week.
The motion to send the embattled county boss home was tabled on Tuesday by Ndenderu MCA Solomon Kinuthia.
The MCA cites alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office as grounds to impeach the first-time governor.
Karichu now says they have been lobbying for the support of the impeachment motion, and exuded confidence that it will meet the required threshold to pass.
He dismissed another motion to impeach Deputy Governor James Nyoro saying it won't see the light of the day.
"No matter what you are hearing today about Nyoro being impeached, that cannot go through. But Waititu's impeachment motion will sail through. He will go," Karichu said as quoted by the Star.
The MCA further dismissed reports that Waititu's war with Nyoro, which has sharply divided the county assembly, was due to Kieleweke-Tanga Tanga battle for supremacy.
"This is not about President Uhuru Kenyatta or his deputy William Ruto and the 2022 politics. It is about graft," the Kirenga Ward Rep said.
The motion to sack Nyoro was tabled by Witeithie MCA Julius Macharia Taki who accused him of gross violation of the Constitution and the County Government Act through 'unlawful assumption of the office of the governor'.
“He is doing so without any written authority from any person or any court of law. Indeed, the courts have clearly pointed out to him that he cannot undertake any functions of this nature,” Taki said.
