The DP has been very vocal about Jubilee Party candidate for the race McDonald Mariga, only weeks after he was accused of sponsoring Mariga and pushing him into the contest.

Onyonka is of the idea that the DP's involvement is a proof and demonstration that he will be seeking the presidency in 2022, and is trying to test the waters in city politics.

He likened him to a man trying to send signals that he will be there in 2022, and is using the Kibra race to fire warnings to his possible rivals that he will not be taking any chances.

"I think DP Ruto wants to test the waters for 2022. The DP is putting his foot down to declare his intent," he said on NTV's AM Live on Monday.

The remark comes only a day after the DP expressed confidence that Mariga will win, in a constituency which has for years been associated with the oppositions ODM party.

Speaking in Kapseret, Uasin Gishu, Ruto also bashed the ODM for likening Kibra to its bedroom, wondering why its members have never considered bettering Kibra residents' lives.

On his side, fellow panelist and political analyst Herman Manyora decried the funds being used to organize mini polls, for instance the Kibra one which is set for November 7.

He called for a reconsideration of the same, arguing that Kenya is too poor to be wasting too much money in such exercises.

"A poor third-world country like Kenya should not waste so much money on by-elections," said the commentator.

ODM's flag is being flown by Imran Okoth, brother to immediate former area MP Ken Okoth.
