Ezra Chiloba has reacted to his sacking as the CEO of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
In a statement posted on his Twitter account Friday, he contended that he had been arbitrarily dismissed as he had not been given a chance to explain himself.
"The commissioners unprocedurally voted to send me on compulsory leave allowing them to stage manage an internal audit that would justify their end. The commission then conducted an internal audit and raised several issues to which I was never given a chance to respond to before its finalisation. This is against standard practice," Chiloba's statement read.
His statement marks an escalation in the tensions that have dogged the electoral commission for months over the conduct of its affairs.
The articulate CEO came under fire in the lead-up to the 2017 elections after the opposition accused him of plotting to rig the elections in favour of the ruling Jubilee Party.
News of his sacking will come as a relief to opposition supporters who called for his removal from office.
