Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has urged farmers in Uasin Gishu to embrace cotton farming.
Speaking on Friday during a tour to inspect the installation of machinery and equipment at Rift Valley Textile East Africa Limited (Rivatex) in Eldoret, Sudi noted that farmers are set to reap big rewards due to the available market for the crop.
The outspoken Jubilee legislator revealed that there were ongoing revamping projects in the factory which had been initiated by the national government.
"Rivatex is one of the key projects under the manufacturing pillar in the government's Big Four Agenda," wrote Sudi in a post on his official Facebook page.
The MP, however, noted that the factory was grappling with a shortage of its main raw material which is cotton.
"The company produces only 10,000 bales of textile even as its capacity demands that it produces 70,000 bales," he added.
He urged farmers in the county to diversify and embrace cotton farming so as to take full advantage of the available market in Rivatex.
