Detectives in Kisumu have questioned two security guards in line with the ongoing investigations into the mysterious death of Court of Appeal judge Justice Otieno Odek.
The judge, who has been serving in Kisumu since his transfer from Nairobi in February, was found dead inside his house in Groovehut Apartments within Milimani Estate on Monday.
Nyanza Regional Police Coordinator Vincent Makokha said that the private security officers who were manning the premises are, however, not being treated as suspects.
“They are not being treated as suspects, but their statements could be important, noting that they see people who get in and out of the apartment,” he said on Tuesday.
He said that the details of their statements with the police will be kept confidential. He added that the two were on duty on the night and day that the judge died respectively.
The police boss added that the detectives are also probing his three phones which were found on the table when his dead body was discovered inside his apartment on Monday.
"The judge is a high-profile citizen and he communicates with many people. Our focus will, however, be on any calls or texts that may point to the incident,” he noted.
The police broke into justice Odek's house after he failed to report to work on Monday.
