Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has now been summoned the police over his controversial remarks over the weekend.
Speaking in Olessos in Nandi on Saturday, the lawmaker made remarks that have been translated as a threat to persons opposed to Deputy President William Ruto.
In a clip that has been widely circulated online, the legislator who was speaking at a funeral service is also seen threatening Ruto's detractors of unspecified consequences.
"Those who are fighting the Deputy President, we (sic) are profiling you ... if you fight [the] DP you’re fighting us. Don’t think he doesn’t have supporters,” he said.
"As his supporters if you continue fighting the DP we are marking you and profiling you. When the time comes we will deal with you. Even the DP has supporters and should be respected," he added.
Speaking on Monday, the senator confirmed receiving summon from Rahamad Wasilwa, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer investigating the case.
He is consequently expected to appear before before the police on Tuesday, amid bashings from other leaders offended by his remarks.
His remarks come amid a rift in the ruling Jubilee Party, which has seen some party members drop their support for the DP in favour of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
