Political analyst and lawyer Ambrose Weda now wants the government to stop harassing people dealing with and using bhang which is an illegal substance.
Speaking on Wednesday, the High Court advocate argued that bhang is a natural plant like any other, and its users should not be troubled by the state as is the case now.
He noted that Kenyans are being subjected to more harmful processed products like tobacco and beer, whose effects he said are far worse than that of fresh bhang.
"There is nothing wrong with weed, this thing was created by God himself. Science had proven that it had medicinal values," he said.
Weda made the remarks in an interview on KBC English Service's The Big Conversation show on Wednesday morning.
He also lashed out at the government for paying too much attention to less relevant issues at the expense of bigger things it should be handling instead.
According to Weda, who is also part of the tribunal investigating the conduct of supreme court judge Jackton Ojwang, the state should instead be looking into things to do with cattle rustling and terrorism.
"Terrorism and two people smoking bhang, where should we focus? There is also cattle rustling," he added.
