Speaking at a Naivasha hotel on Monday, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak said the sleuths from the commission are probing eight counties over the alleged misuse of resources meant for the public.

Twalib said that the devolved units cannot account for millions they have been receiving from the National Treasury.

He, however, refused to name the counties on their radar. He also said that the red flags have shown that the funds cannot be accounted for.

“Investigations in the affected counties are at different stages, some at a very advanced level,” Mr Mbarak said.

Twalib also said that several county bosses have been tasked with explaining how they utilised the funds channeled by the national governments.

“It is too early to say we are recommending their prosecution. We are not in a hurry to take governors to court but the message to them is that a crime investigation does not expire,” he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

Twalib also said that the commission has recovered large paces of land in a fight against graft.

He further said that the days of corrupt county officials are numbered, adding that the anti-graft body has put in place several measures to ensure no public resources are missing.
