Mr Okoth, 41, succumbed to cancer last Friday and he is set to be interred on Saturday. Currently, a memorial mass is being held at Moi Girls Kibra in honour of the MP.

The burial committee agreed to have the mass at the place because Mr Okoth had held his last function before dying a week later at Nairobi Hospital.

Mr Okoth was elected on ODM ticket in 2013 and reclaimed his seat on the same party. Kibra constituency was partitioned from the larger Lang'ata constituency where Raila Odinga represented.

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna lauded Mr Okoth, arguing that the party honoured him by wrapping the flag on his casket, to signify his committment to the party.

"On behalf of ODM, I am confident that we have lost an energetic legislator who loved the party. We wrapped the flag on his casket in solidarity with his loyalty," said Sifuna.

Similar sentiments were shared by ODM chairman John Mbadi, who insisted that Mr Okoth was loyal to the party despite claims that he at times spoke his mind.

"I want to assure you that Ken Okoth was very loyal to party leadership. That is why we sponsored him twice. He was a gentleman," he added.

Among those present at Moi Girls Kibra were Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, Moses Wetangula, Kalonzo Musyoka and dozens of MPs who had come to mourn him.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja promised to take care of children who were being sponsored by Mr Ken Okoth, adding that it will be part of honoring his love for educating.
