Throughout 2018 and part of this year, Dr Ruto had made a whooping 20 trips to Nyamira and Kisii Counties combined, making him a formidable force.

During that period, Raila Odinga, who scooped thousands of votes from the region, had only made less than five trips thus giving Ruto an upper hand.

But the paradigm shifted this year, when President Uhuru Kenyatta elevated Dr Matiang'i to head powerful Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee.

For six months, Dr Matiang'i has managed to counter DP William Ruto's force in the region, with a section of politicians now joining his camp.

"To be honest, the ground had shifted and it was becoming hard for me to maneuver in the name of Tanga Tanga. I had no option but to join the minister," concedes Woman Representative Jerusha Momanyi.

In an exclusive interview with Borabu MP Ben Momanyi, the second term legislator pointed at a powerful narrative created by Matiang'i, that will kill many political careers.

"He has projected himself as a performer and by the fact that he's aiming something bigger, it makes masses love him. It's difficult to go against him," he said.

Currently, both Governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae are spearheading a push to have Matiang'i go for presidential seat.

But despite the gains, a number of MPs led by Joash Nyamoko of North Mugirango are still rallying for Deputy President William Ruto's bid.
