As Kenyans continue to use various forums to debate the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) availed to the public last month, a Member of Parliament (MP) has suggested that President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga be part of the next government.
According to Nyando MP Jared Okello, Kenyatta and Odinga should be part and parcel of the next government since they are the ones ‘who understand the BBI’.
Speaking at Marenga Beach in Busia County on Tuesday during an event attended by Odinga, Okello said that the President and the former Prime Minister initiated the handshake which gave birth to BBI and hence deserve to be in the next government after the 2022 general elections.
“Because two children who are handshake and BBI are his (Odinga) and Uhuru Kenyatta, we would not like another government to come into place without father (Odinga) and Uhuru because they are the ones who know the issue of BBI (Kwa vile mitoto miwili ambayo ni handshake na BBI ni yake (Odinga) na Uhuru Kenyatta, hatungetaka serikali ingine iingie mpya bila baba (Odinga) na bila Uhuru na wao ndio wanajua hiyo BBI)”, said Okello who was elected on the ODM ticket.
The BBI report recommends the introduction of a Prime Minister post in the Kenyan executive, with claims that Kenyatta may be eying the new post after he retires in 2022.
However, the Head of State has on numerous occasions indicated that he will gracefully retire in 2022, while Odinga has not declared an intention of running for President in 2022.
