Nairobi's popular club, Space Lounge on Ngong Road is shutting down and laying off all of its workers starting November 1.
This follows a directive by Justice Loise Komingoi ruled that Space Lounge's permit and licenses are unlawful.
“Due to court order issued on October 17, 2019, for revoking all our permits and liquor licences, we, therefore, wish to inform you that Space Lounge & Grill Limited will be officially closed from November 1, 2019,” a statement by the management read in part.
Though it will layoff all workers, the management added that it will pay their salaries in full.
“We have spent a lot of time together and made so many memories but now it is time to say goodbye to each other which is definitely not easy as goodbyes are the hardest…you will be missed by the heads of the company and well as it is said that goodbyes are the hardest,” the statement further read.
Kilimani Project Foundation moved to the Land and Environment Court petitioned the presence of clubs in the area citing noise pollution and insecurity.
The Foundation which was represented by lawyer Cecil Miller told the court that "The clubs and bars have become a nuisance to the residents as they have been deprived of the basic necessity of sleep on a regular basis."
