Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and the Chairman of Council of Governors Wycliffe Oparanya have vowed to continue pushing for more funds to be channelled to devolved units.
The two said if the amount of money counties receive from the National Government will be increased, it will help to improve the livelihoods of the electorates.
“We shall continue as a Senate to fight for more money to come to the counties for Kenyans to feel the fruits of devolution. I urge MCAs to hold governors accountable and ensure that the funds are used prudently,” said Lusaka on Saturday during the closing ceremony of County Assembly Sports Association (CASA) games that were held in Eldoret town.
“We want more funds to be channelled to counties so that Kenyans can get good services. The money currently being given by the treasury is a drop in the ocean and cannot cater for all services needed by wananchi,” added the Kakamega governor.
Lusaka and Oparanya further reiterated that MCAs should ensure that every single cent goes to the right project for residents to get value for their money.
Governors and the senate have been advocating the increase of money sent to counties from the National Government.
