Governor Samboja was impeached over what Taita Taveta MCAs called gross misconduct and abuse of office.

This comes in the wake of the county boss's drive to collect signatures to petition President Uhuru Kenyatta to dissolve the county.

Efforts by the governor to enlist the help of veteran opposition and Orange Democratic Movement ODM party leader Raila Odinga to help resolve issues have not yielded fruits.

The county boss had accused the county MCAs of working hard to frustrate him from delivering his agenda for the people of the county.

He said that dissolving the county would help resolve the issues that had plagued his relationship with the county assembly.

Raila Odinga backed him saying that dissolution would resolve issues if the MCAs remained difficult to work with.

Last week, Governor Samboja attacked DP Ruto and warned him against meddling into the affairs of the county.

Deputy President Dr William Ruto had called for an amicable resolution of the issues and sought to dissuade Samboja from seeking the dissolution of the assembly.

It was not clear at the time of writing this article whether the county boss would move to court to appeal the verdict of the county assembly.

While the assembly wants Sh40 million allocated for every ward in what they call Ward Development Fund, Samboja has stood grounds and refused to yield to pressure.

He becomes the first governor to be impeached in the second Devolution government. The Assembly Speaker will now communicate to Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, after which Senators will approve or reject the impeachment.
