The Tottenham Hotspur midfielder claimed that the firm used his image without his consent, which he claims, amounts to image rights violation.

The firm used his image while wishing the national football team luck during the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament that ended last month.

However, Wanyama argues that the company used his image to promote themselves more than they used it to promote the national football team.

“If you believe it, you can do it, we at the Menengai would like to wish our boys all the best in the Africa Cup of Nations,” the company tweeted back then.

However, according to Wanyama, the firm should have used the national football team's photo and not his.

“If the message was meant for the whole team, photo comprising the entire team could have been used,” he argued.

Wanyama now wants the court to declare that the company has breached his image and personal rights.

He also wants to be compensated by the company for using his image for advertisement.
