Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was released on Wednesday night after being granted a cash bail of Sh15 million.
Reports from Citizen TV indicate that the governor departed from Milimani Law Courts at around 8:00 pm while being escorted by his lawyers after settling the Sh15 million cash bail that Magistrate Ogoti had granted.
The governor was however released on a number of conditions.
He was barred from accessing his office. A number of officials were directed to escort the governor to the county office so that he could collect his belongings.
“If need be, he (Sonko) can be escorted to his office by the investigating officer or any other authorised officer,” Magistrate Ogoi ruled as quoted by The Standard.
Sonko was also prohibited from commenting on the case on social media.
Sonko had spent five days in police custody after he was arrested on Friday following an order from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Nordin Haji.
The governor was arrested in connection to a Sh357 million graft case.
The office of the Inspector General pressed additional charges of resisting arrest, assaulting a police officer and obstructing a police officer from carrying out his duty.
Mike Sonko is now the third governor to be barred from accessing officer.
