Sixteen people were on Monday arraigned before a Nakuru Court to face charges of operating a pharmaceutical shop without valid documents.
The sixteen faced various charges which include operating their businesses without licenses, being in possession of drugs without licences from the Kenya Pharmacy and Poisons Board (KPPB).
Some of the accused were being accused of allegedly operating a pharmacy without having been registered as pharmacists by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.
The court heard that the accused persons were arrested following a crackdown by officials from the Pharmacy and Poison’s Board on May 26.
According to Nation, Daniel Kiago was being accused of allegedly operating a pharmacy at premises not registered by the regulatory board and unlawfully handling drugs in Lanet.
Scholastica Kwamboka was also charged with operating an unregistered pharmacy business at Kaptembwa.
The suspects, however, denied the charges before Principal Magistrate Bernard Mararo and applied to be released on bail.
Magistrate Mararo ordered that they are released on a Sh20,000 bond with sureties of similar amounts or an alternative cash bail of Sh10,000.
KPPB had on May 15, launched a 90-day countrywide crackdown on unregistered pharmacies in an attempt to promote better health care and weed out all the quacks in the industry.
