Deputy President Dr William Ruto joined other Kenyans in congratulating various Kenyan teams and individuals for their stellar performances at the African Games in Morocco.
Among those who made Kenya proud are Robert Kiprop, George Manangoi, Julius Yego and Alexander Kiprotich.
"Robert Kiprop leads a 1-2-3 finish in the men’s 5,000m with George Manangoi winning gold in the 1,500m. Julius Yego, Alexander Kiprotich bag gold and silver in Javelin Throw as Titus Ekiru gets gold in the Half Marathon at the #AfricanGames. Hearty congratulations to Team Kenya," Ruto tweeted.
The DP also praised Kenyan female volleyball team Malkia Strikers for retaining their title. The Kenyan queens recorded a remarkable comeback after Cameroon threatened to back gold in the first set.
A 12-25, 25-15, 26-24, 25-21 result was enough to give them the gold that they deserved. They booked a place in the final after beating Nigeria 3-0.
"Fantastic comeback by #MalkiaStrikers to beat Cameroon and retain the women's volleyball title at the #AfricanGames. You have done your country proud," the DP wrote.
Some of the players who offered memorable displays are Aggrippina Kundu, Janet Wacu, Noel Murambi and Mercy Moim.
The win is the first trophy for the veteran coach, Paul Bitok. He succeeded Shailen Ramdoo.
