Speaking on Friday on Standard Media Group-owned Kenya Television Network, the former world record holder said that his eyes were firmly on the 2020 Olympics to be staged in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan.

He also revealed that he would leverage his stature as a world-renowned athlete to help tackle societal issues.

"Maybe if I get a chance next year, I will be representing Kenya in the Olympics in Japan. Also, my vision, my aim is to also use my stature as an athlete to give back to the community (Nikipata nafasi pengine katika mwaka ujao niweze kuwakilisha Kenya katika mbio za Olimpiki kule Japan. Na pia, maono yangu, lengo langu ni kwamba kabla sijastaafu niweze kupata nafasi ya kutumia nafasi yangu kama mkimbiaji kuweza kurudisha mkono katika community)," Mr Wilson Kipsang said.

The athlete said that he would be seeking to give back to society through his Wilson Kipsang Foundation through capacity building.

A big part of the foundation's focus will be helping the disadvantaged in society like orphans.

Wilson Kipsang has been, by and large, out of the public eye.

Speculation has been rife that he may run for a political seat in 2022 in Elgeyo Marakwet, speculation that he has not confirmed or denied.
