Strategic Food Reserve (SFR) Board Chair Noah Wekesa has joined the list of notable figures who have welcomed the sacking of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri.
Kiunjuri was on Tuesday sacked by President Uhuru Kenyatta, who also proceeded to make changes in his cabinet, replacing him with former Trade CS Peter Munya.
Wekesa, formerly the Kwanza MP, lauded the sacking, saying that the president was very right to sack the man he said lacked the right skills to serve in that capacity.
He branded him a problematic person and a failure on matters addressing the plight of farmers.
“We welcome the changes as Mr Kiunjuri was problematic in handing issues affecting farmers,” Wekesa told Nation.
Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna too welcomed the move, observing that the president is out to weed out his incompetent ministers.
He hoped that Munya will universally address the plight of farmers across the country and not only focus on that of tea and milk farmers.
“It was no surprise that he also moved to deal with incompetence in his Cabinet, exemplified by Kiunjuri. It is our hope that the same measures prescribed for tea and milk will be applied to save the sugar and maize sectors,” Sifuna said.
Already, Kiunjuri has accepted his fate, arguing that his sacking was not a surprise to him and suggesting that it has taken a load off him.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Kiunjuri said that he had endured enough humiliation.
