A section of leaders from Lamu County have registered their displeasure at what they call 'marginalisation' of the county, in President Uhuru Kenyatta's latest reorganisation of government.
Speaking on Thursday, Abdallah Fadhi, a social leader and former chairman of the Lamu county council, said since independence, Lamu has not been able to have one of its own appointed as a Minister or Cabinet Secretary.
He said the residents of the county are disappointed by the reorganisation.
"I want to say that it is disappointing that from when Kenya gained independence there has been no person who has been appointed government minister or Cabinet Secretary. (Nataka kusema ya kwamba ni kitu cha kusikitisha sana na cha kuchoma roho kabisa kuona kwamba kuanzia tupate uhuru Kenya mpaka leo hakuna cabinet minister ama kwa lugha ya kisasa cabinet secretary yeyote ambaye ashachaguliwa kutoka Lamu), " Fathi said. (1:25-1:40)
Fathi claimed the reorganisation of government was proof that Lamu does not occupy a respectable place in the Uhuru-led administration, in spite of having well-educated people and having voted for the Jubilee administration.
He urged the president to take care of the interests of the people of Lamu in the spirit of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).
President Kenyatta reorganised his Cabinet on Tuesday at State House, Mombasa.
