Malindi Member of Parliament Aisha Jumwa has denied claims of killing a man during a scuffle at the home of Ganda Ward Representative-elect Reuben Katana last week.
The incident, which left Katana's uncle shot dead happened after Jumwa, her aide Geoffrey Okuto and her supporters stormed a meeting at Katana's home, according to the police.
But Jumwa and Okuto on Tuesday denied claims of participating in the killing, turning the blame to the police for allegedly pulling the trigger, denying any participation.
Speaking during an interrogation session at the Malindi Airport Police Station, the two said that they are wrongfully being linked to the death of Ngumbao Jola, Standard Digital reports.
This came five days after their arrest over the killing of Jola on Wednesday last week.
Jumwa told the police that the chaos erupted after she had left the scene.
After the arrest, the police also confiscated a gun and 11 bullets from Okuto, which have been submitted for forensic analysis. Okuto was arrested in the lawmaker's home.
The two were questioned for two hours, according to Malindi Sub County Director of Criminal Investigations Anthony Sunguti.
Katana won the seat on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
