The Mumias rally which was called off by police on January 18, 2020, due to sighting security issues will now be conducted afresh on Saturday.
The rally which was to be staged at Nabongo grounds in Mumias by Ruto allies was revoked after it coincided with the BBI meeting which was held at Bukhungu stadium in Kakamega.
The freshly conducted meeting will focus on the economic empowerment of the locals in the western region among other agendas, Mumias East legislator Benjamin Washiali has said.
Washiali on Friday said that the western leaders want to push the government to address the ailing sugar sector.
"We want to meet and also make demands to the government to support economic activities in this region as it has done to other areas. The Sagana meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and central leaders resulted in several state interventions in the tea, coffee and dairy sectors and we want the President to do the same for the sugar, maize and cotton industry for us,” Washiali said.
He said that they will meet with managers of Nzoia and Mumias factories before the meeting is staged. He also proposed that the sugar task force report to be given to President Kenyatta so that the national government can revive the sector.
Washiali also urged leaders from Western to come together and address the tough economy that the people of western are facing.
