The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji is expected to visit Kisumu on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 after residents raised concern over high cases of insecurity.
Haji will hold public forums with a section of residents to understand their complaints over the rate of insecurity in Kisumu.
He is expected to meet members of the public at the Kondele Justice Centre offices.
Members of the Kondele Justice Centre had organised a demonstration over rising cases of insecurity, which attracted the DPP’s attention.
In an interview with Hivisasa.com, Kondele Justice Centre’s founder and team leader Boniface Ogutu Akatch said that they had planned for a demonstration over insecurity, which prompted the DPP to suggest that a meeting be planned.
“We had planned to hold a demonstration tomorrow (October 22). It attracted his interest and he reached out to us. He told us that instead of demonstrating we can sit down and talk in order to chart a better way forward,” said Akatch.
He said their complaints against police range from alleged extortion and brutality.
“We had planned for a demonstration as civil society groups with concerned members of public because insecurity continues to deteriorate in Kisumu as police who are supposed to protect members of the public extort money and carry on with brutality,” he added.
Noordin Haji assumed office in April last year.
