Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has broken silence after Amani National Congress (ANC) party announced his suspension.
In an exclusive interview with Citizen Digital, Malala said that he decided to back ODM candidate Imran Okoth on the basis of the National Super Alliance (NASA).
He denied that he decided to pull the move because of the bad blood between him and his party boss Musalia Mudavadi saying he has not received any formal communication from his party on the suspension.
The senator also accused the party of acting against the stipulated laws of the party in regard to the matter.
The officials of the party confirmed that the senator attended the rally organised by ODM when they had fielded Eliud Awalo to contest for the same position.
The Committee Chairperson Yare Mohammed said that Malala had disrespected Mudavadi after the decision to back Imran and went ahead to issue offending remarks during the campaigns.
Nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi has also defended Malala over the suspension terming it unwarranted.
“ANC party has sunk to its lowest by using uncoordinated hirelings with no official status in the party to stifle internal democracy in the party through cheap intimidation tactics that continually erodes Hon Mudavadi political capital and public image,” he said.
Osotsi was also kicked out of the party after he was reportedly involved in the misuse of funds meant for the public.
Earlier on, Malala had alluded that Owalo was Deputy President William Ruto’s project. He went on to join Raila Odinga allies to woo voters to back Imran.
