Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga will not endorse Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, lawyer Silas Jakakimba has said.
Jakakimba, who in the past served as Raila's personal assistant, insisted there was no way the former Prime Minister will throw his weight behind the DP in the next polls.
He was responding after political analyst Edward Kisiang'ani said there was a possibility of the ODM boss backing Ruto to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Professor Kisiang'ani: Raila Odinga will not endorse Ruto for 2022. There are more pressing national issues to be addressed, Sir," Jakakimba said on Wednesday.
While telling off tweeps who criticised him for saying Ruto was the only serious contender in the 2022 race, Kisiang'ani mocked them, saying they will make an about-turn and rally behind the DP when Raila backs him.
"If tomorrow Raila Odinga endorses Ruto for 2022 (and there are possibilities that could happen) those insulting me now will quickly adjust and say Ruto is the real deal, the angel! To whom did we surrender our brains? This is a horrible intellectual tragedy! Count me out!" tweeted the Kenyatta University lecturer.
Wading into the conversation, television journalist Tony Gachoka agreed with Jakakimba that Raila will not endorse the DP, adding that the university don deserves to be ignored.
"Jakakimba, this Kisiang'ani should not cause you any discomfort at least, he causes me none; his voice on DP Ruto does not meet the test at any level of seriousness so give him a break," said Gachoka, who hosts KTN's Point Blank Show.
