Chaos erupted at the Kisumu County Assembly on Wednesday morning after anti-riot police officers engaged a section of ward reps in running battles.

This was after the MCAs attempted to block embattled County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo from accessing his office within the assembly.

The group had gathered at the premises to block the former Kisumu Central parliamentary hopeful, before those allied to Oloo came out to fight them off, resulting in a clash.

This attracted the attention of the police who lobbed teargas canisters and engaged the group in running battles, in an attempt to maintain order at the assembly.

This follows a similar incident last Wednesday, where the assembly turned into a boxing ring after the two sections engaged in a fight over the fate of the Speaker.

This was before the MCAs managed to temporarily replace him with North Kisumu MCA Elisha Oraro, before an official impeachment motion was tabled on Tuesday.

However, weighing in on the fights at the assembly and attempts to impeach him, Oloo told KTN News that there is no law barring him from accessing the assembly.

Those opposed to his rule have based their argument on his implication in the Sh4.1 billion Lake Basin Development Authority (LBDA) mall scandal.
