Police in Kiambu are holding a woman accused of throwing her twins inside a dam within the same county earlier in the week.

22-year-old Margaret Wanjiru Mumbi was arraigned before Kiambu Senior Resident Magistrate Stella Atambo on Friday to face the charges.

The magistrate heard that the 2-and-a-half year old girls; Fraria Wairimu and Abigail Njeri were thrown into a dam within Kiamumbi locality.

She granted the prosecution's request to hold the suspect for longer, ordering that she be detained at the Kiamumbi Police Station to allow the police time to investigate the matter.

The accused has since confessed to committing the said crime, but told the court that she had issues with her husband, and killed the children out of rage.

She added that after throwing them into the dam, she notified villagers who unsuccessfully tried to save them as they had already died, after which she was arrested.

The magistrate also ordered that the police take her to the Kiambu Level Five Hospital within the 14 days she will be under their detention for mental examination.

Justice Atambo ordered that a postmortem test be conducted on the bodies of the deceased to established if they had been mishandled or mistreated prior to the incident and be presented before her.

The case will he mentioned on October 11.
