Currently, the job crisis in Kenya is extremely sad.
The unemployment plus the loss of jobs added to the salary cuts are an economic disaster in waiting.
Thousands of people are looking for jobs everyday unsuccessfully. For this reason, it makes perfect sense why you would stay in a job you hate or work with a boss you dislike.
I have seen so many supervisors treat their staff like slaves and people who hate their jobs live very depressing lives. This is not good for anyone’s mental health. I do not believe people hate their jobs because they hate their jobs, I think people hate their jobs because they dislike their boss.
Here are 3 reasons why your boss disrespects you hence your dislike of work;
3. You do not stand your ground
Always stand your ground. This does not mean that you become hard-headed and difficult to deal with (probably like your boss). This just means that you know what you want, understand and explain confidently why you want it.
A respectable person will also listen to contrary opinions, understand where they are coming from, appreciate them and still explain why you chose to think differently.
Related to being firm, you also need to have boundaries with your boss. Do not let them into your personal life, do not let them know your personal weaknesses or better still, what makes you tick. Let there be an element of mystery.
2. You apologize...too much
I read somewhere that women apologize more than men in the workplace. I became attentive and I realized that this is true. I became keen and reduced my rate of apologizing and I realized that even when I am wrong, it is not a big deal. When you keep apologizing, it seems like you do not know how to do your job.
Acknowledging that you made a mistake, does not mean that you have to apologize. Apologizing too much makes you seem weak.
1. They do not think you are fit for the job
When you are productive and reliable, you will be in good books with your boss. The opposite of this makes you just someone that we can’t fire because they know people. A reasonable boss will fire you, after a couple of warning letters of course. I have actually lost respect for people who are all talk but they never deliver, but you cannot get rid of them for various reasons.
