A total of 16 pupils from Uasin Gishu have benefited from Wings to Fly scholarship programme courtesy of Equity Group Foundation.

Equity Bank Eldoret Market Branch Manager said they were selecting bright and needy pupils with  350 marks.

“We used the criteria where we looked for students who had lost one or both parents, low-income families, those displaced and neglected and had scored 350 marks. We had 522 applicants but only 16 were selected that is 8 boys and 8 girls,” he said after flagging of the 16 beneficiaries, Friday.

“Our aim is to ensure those bright students from poor background access education. The beneficiaries will pay nothing since their transport to and from school, shopping we don’t want their education to be interfered with,” he added.

He, however, urged other financial institutions to follow suit by helping those in need since there are many bright and needy students out there who cannot continue their education.

Mercy Chepleting one of the beneficiaries from St Lukes primary schools and got 412 marks thanked the  Equity Group Foundation for the noble course and promised to work hard.

“I am really grateful for what Equity Bank has done to us and I promise to work hard and become a doctor,” she said.
