It was a horrid moment for patients who were waiting for doctors to attend to them in a queue at Kisumu County Referral Hospital when one of the patients collapsed and died.
The man who collapsed is identified as Edwin Odhiambo, a 23-year old motorbike operator from Kolwa ward located in the suburbs of Kisumu Town.
Going by the reports from his relatives who had brought him to the hospital, Odhiambo had been very sick for three days and had waited in the queue for three hours before succumbing to the undisclosed ailment.
The relatives pointed out that the hospital had given a condition before Odhiambo is treated, they must take his blood samples for tests first.
Charles Muchura, a brother to Odhiambo said that they had opted to take him to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital but they again told them to take blood samples for tests first.
His kinsmen admitted that Odhiambo had gone for tests twice but he had not received medications.
"We rushed him to the county hospital after his condition worsened,” said Michura.
The family said that their kin died because of ignorance by doctors, a claim which Health Administrative Officer Dr Francis Ayugi refuted saying that they had brought him when it was 'too late'.
"A patient was brought in critical condition and died at the outpatient room while being resuscitated," Dr Ayugi affirmed.
He added that the laboratory tests were underway when Odhiambo died.
