President Uhuru Kenyatta has opened a chapel for the Recce Squad in Ruiru, Kiambu county.
The opening of the chapel was revealed by the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government in a Twitter post.
"President Uhuru Kenyatta has today opened a chapel at the GSU Recce Company's headquarters, Ruiru, and directed Dr.@FredMatiangi to follow through the construction of a fully-fledged school within the camp to improve access to education for the officers' children," the ministry wrote on its Twitter handle.
The head of state was joined by the Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i and the Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai.
In a tweet on Sunday, Dr Fred Matiang'i hailed the development as an indication of the president's commitment to reforming the security sector.
"On behalf of @InteriorKE and @NPSOfficial_KE, I thank H.E. President Kenyatta for his profound commitment to reforming the security sector through such enterprises as the new GSU Ruiru Chapel, which will spiritually nourish and strengthen their hearts as they fulfil their duties," the Interior CS wrote in his Sunday tweet.
The members of the General Service Unit (GSU) will now have a place to go for spiritual nourishment that they can call their own.
