Government officials have today closed a school in Dadaab after the Al-Shabaab militia launched an attack on Tuesday in the region.
Garissa County commissioner Mweru Mwangi confirmed the closure of Saretho Boarding Primary School citing security reasons. The attackers are reportedly said to have been targeting the teacher's quarters.
A teacher and a child are among those who perished during the attack.
Khalif Issack, the County Education Director who ordered the closure of the school asked parents not to allow their children to report to the school until things normalise.
“We are requesting the parents of the children who did not report to school to stay at home. The school is closed until normalcy returns,” said Issack.
This comes days after the militia group attacked a joint US-Kenyan military base, Camp Simba in Lamu on Sunday leaving three Americans dead.
