According to Muvuti assistant chief Elizabeth Mwangangi, the man was busted slaughtering the goat, when the angry mob descended on him with blows and kicks.

"They used stones, blows, and kicks to beat him. If I hadn't arrived in time, he would have been killed because by the time I got there, he had serious injuries," said Mwangangi.

"When I whisked him away in a tuktuk the residents wanted to overturn the tuk-tuk. They were really furious," she added.

She said the man has a tendency of stealing goats and selling them, despite being given several warnings before.

"It seems he has people whom he sells the meat to. He is a notorious thief who has caused many residents pain," she said.

Mwangangi warned residents against theft urging them to find legal ways of making money instead.

"Find other ways of making money without committing a crime. Those who have been stealing in the region will soon be caught," she said.

The man is currently being held at Machakos police station awaiting arraignment in court.
