City lawyer Donald Kipkorir has chided Deputy President William Ruto after he promised Kibra residents development projects if they elect Jubilee Party candidate McDonald Mariga in the upcoming by-election.
Kipkorir said Kibra, which is the home of the biggest slum in the country, lacks proper infrastructure due to neglect by previous regimes, and warned residents against being hoodwinked that they will be delivered by Mariga.
"Dear Kibra: Kibra is part of Kenya and if you lack roads, houses et al blame the successive gov’ts that have been in power since 1963," he tweeted on Monday.
"To be told that someone who wasn’t born in Kibra, semi-illiterate and hasn’t voted and won't vote for himself will bring you development is witchcraft!" added the outspoken lawyer.
Speaking at Lindi grounds on Sunday, Ruto promised an array of goodies such as decent houses, jobs and a technical training college but only if they vote for the former Harambee Stars international midfielder.
"We have water, electricity and infrastructure problems in Kibra and it's only Mariga who will change this while working with President [Uhuru] Kenyatta," he said.
"I am also aware that so many youths here have no jobs…. If you elect Mariga on November 7, on November 8 we shall sit down with him so that by next year we have a training college here," the DP added.
