Kipchoge was one of the key figures that received a warm welcome in the coastal city.

Starting from his arrival, the anxiously waiting crowd was happily cheering the World Marathon Record holder.

Like that was not enough, the crowd kept on cheering any time Kipchoge's name was mentioned.

Leaders present could not finish their well-cooked speeches without mentioning and praising the champion.

Kipchoge recently made history as the first human being to run a marathon race under 2 hours. He pulled off the feat in Vienna, the capital city of Austria, where he crossed the finish line in just 1 hour, 59 minutes and 40 seconds only.

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho was the first to shower Kipchoge with praises. The host governor was welcoming other leaders who had shown up at the celebration before he noted the presence of the marathoner.

"The hero of this century in athletics Eliud Kipchoge is also here," Joho said after he had introduced officials from the government.

Deputy President William Ruto who later welcomed President Uhuru Kenyatta on stage, could not finish his speech without recognizing Kipchoge.

The President concluded celebrating Kipchoge by saying he will remain to be the greatest of this generation.

"Eliud Kipchoge remains the Greatest Of All Our Time. We can achieve the very best as individuals and as a country collectively, " said Uhuru.

Kipchoge left the drive when the crowd was still cheering him. He was seen waving at the crowd as the bus he had boarded made its way from Mama Ngina Drive
