President Uhuru Kenyatta is among those expected to attend Moscow's First Africa-Russia summit at the Black Sea of Sochi, alongside 46 other African heads on October 24.

Speaking on Monday, Putin said that his country seeks to offer a different kind of help for African countries, different from the others from the West, whose help he termed "exploitative".

Responding to the press in Moscow, Putin said that the country will be looking forward to proposals from African presidents, with the intention of helping.

"We will consider these initiatives with great interest and decide what could be launched right away and what will require further elaboration," he said, adding that bilateral talks will be held.

Mr Putin noted that this will be a continuation of the support Russia has offering to Africa on education, health and security.

He added that Russia is also looking at possibilities of dispatching investors to Africa over the next five years, terming Africa a continent of opportunities.

Asked if he is ready to compete with other Western and Asian counties already scrambling for Africa, he said that his country is ready for a healthy competition.

However, he warned that some of the countries turning their attention to Africa are out to exploit the continent, adding that others are manipulating African heads for space.

But he said that Russia, which is seeking to get influence in the continent, has a lot to offer, which will be discussed during the forum.

"We are not going to participate in a new "repartition" of the continent's wealth; rather, we are ready to engage in competition for cooperation with Africa, provided that this competition is civilised and develops in compliance with the law. We have a lot to offer to our African friends. This will be discussed, among other things, at the forthcoming Summit," he added.

On Sunday, Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Ambassador Macharia Kamau said that Uhuru will be holding bilateral talks with Putin on the sidelines of the summit.
