Photos of the zebra, which were taken by a photographer at a camp, shows a dotted blacker zebra.

According to Antony Tira, a famous tour guide cum photographer, the young zebra has a melanin disorder.

At first, he thought the zebra had been marked. However, after close examination, he realised that was the real skin of the young animal.

“At first I thought it was a zebra that had been captured and painted or marked for purposes of migration. I was confused when I first saw it," Tira told the Nation.

The zebra has since attracted tourists to the Maasai Mara game reserve.

Wildlife specialist at Matira Camp Parmale Lemein noted that this is the first time such a rare zebra is spotted in Mara.

However, he pointed out that such cases have happened in other African parks. Unfortunately, he said that such rare animals don't live long.

Their skin abnormalities make them vulnerable to nature.

Another rare zebra with a blonde skin was spotted a few years ago at Serengeti.

Due to lack of the default black with white stripes in zebras, the other rare kinds don't have a chance to survive the harsh environment.
